1.0 : INTRODUCTION ABOUT CULINARY ARTISTRY :)


-HISTORY -

The history of carving fruit and vegetables is about 700 years Sukothai, the capital of the Tai people, in what is now northern central Thailand. Sukhothai was the capital of the region from 1240 to 1350. In preparation for one of their major festivals, Law Kratong, one of the servants of the king called Nang Noppamart, tried to think how she could make her more beautiful Kratong, please for the king. She took a flower and used it as a reason to carve. She then carved a bird and put him with the head pointing towards the flower. Act Kratong is still celebrated today and Sukhothai is one of the best places in Thailand to experience.

Carving fruit and vegetables is also mentioned in the poetry of King Rama 2 who reigned 1808-1824. He wrote about the beauty of Thai desserts and fruit and vegetable carving. After the revolution in 1932 the sculpture of fruit and vegetables have become less popular. Those who worry about the disappearance of art set up a course to train people to teach art to everyone in Thailand. Today it is taught from the age of 11 in primary schools to secondary school and university where he is an optional subject. The art is now turned to strangers and is practiced worldwide. It is particularly popular with chefs who use it to improve the presentation of their food. Everyone can now enjoy this amazing art in hotels, cruise ships, in every Thai restaurant around the world and on the Internet. Ordinary people are increasingly discovering with disbelief and wonder, the beauty of this art Thai Thanks to the imagination of Nang Noppamart all these years.


Carving fruit and vegetables in Thailand today is a traditional art and cultivated. Not only the taste and aroma of a dish is important but also the visual appeal. Serve food is beautifully competence which has been practiced for centuries in Europe and Asia. In presenting the food in Thailand was elevated to an art that can take years of study and practice. Pumpkins, melons, pineapples, papayas and are carved in traditional Thai designs to become hollow and containers for fruit salads, hot dishes and sauces. Thai banana leaves in both cleverly baskets, cups and plates. The vegetables are carved into flowers, leaves and even fish and crab shapes and eaten raw and cooked. Fruits, including apples, papayas, watermelons and cantelopes are transformed into works of art.

The sculpture of fruit and vegetables was originally for the exclusive enjoyment of the royal court of Siam. The Thai people are very artistic and have a deep appreciation for beauty and decoration as evidenced by the elaborate costumes of the classical Thai dancers and the elaborate decoration of Thai temples (wats). Decoration of Thai dishes to a meal is innate to the culture. Today, the Royal Thai cuisine has become world famous. The traditional Thai society appreciated the art of food presentation and mastery of it was considered the mark of a true aristocratic woman in ancient times. The Siamese Grand Palace was a kind of graduation for the well-born women teaching classical cooking, flower arranging, making wreaths of fresh flowers, banana leaf folding, classical dance, sewing, brewing, perfume arrangement of betel chewing, rolling cigarettes and fruit carving. Carving reached its zenith under the reign of King Rama II, Bangkok (1809 to 1824).

Highest of these arts and crafts Palace was considered the sculpture of fruit and vegetables, where ordinary products such as cucumbers, pumpkins, watermelons, tomatoes and onions were transformed into miniature animals, birds, flowers size and containers. Boats traditional Thai classical figures from Thai mythology, heroic statues of the epic Ramayana are a source of inspiration for sculpture not only with fruits and vegetables, but also in the ice and butter. Sculptures of this kind can still be seen at four star hotels and Sculpture Competition in Thailand. Fortunately for mere mortals, after political revolution of 1931 in Thailand, all the arts and sciences of the royal kitchen were passed on to the commoners in the school system.

Carving fruit and vegetables is a venerable tradition that has been transmitted from ancient times. Carving fruit and vegetables is regarded as one of ten traditional Thai crafts. It is therefore considered an ancient art and is used in the manufacture of food offerings for monks, entertaining guests, ordinations, weddings and royal funerals. This traditional craft has developed in the palaces of kings since the Sukhothai period 700 years ago. Know prune fruit is simple and easy.
